Monkton Mountain Challenge - Snowdonia
The Monkton Mountain Challenge enjoyed a weekend of exciting adventures and glorious weather in Snowdonia for their final expedition of the year.
The first day saw the Carneddau conquered. The day dawned misty with cloud cover over the summits. This provided early relief from the sun as we scrambled up the exposed ridgeline of Llech Du to summit Carnedd Dafydd, 3425ft. The group then walked along the ridgeline to the top of the second highest mountain in Wales, Carnedd Llewelyn, 3490ft, before a short walk to the third mountain of the day Yr Elen, 3156ft, in the glorious sunshine. It was great to see everyone working together as a team and helping each other over tricky sticks and we approached Day 2 with confidence.
Glorious sunshine baked the team as they overcame challenges to scramble up the North Ridge of Tryfan. A keen sense of accomplishment was felt at the top, rewarded by ice cream at Ogwyn Lodge at the end of the walk. A quick trip to Zip World saw top speeds as the team whizzed down Velocity 2, the fastest zipline in the world - a great adrenaline fueled end to the trip.
