The end of year always brings a feast of celebration at Monkton, and 2024 was no different.

Following Sports Day at the University of Bath on the Tuesday, our weekend of celebration kicked off on Thursday 27th with The Open - a fantastic evening of theatrical performances from a host of genres. 30 performers from Years 9-13 took to the Assembly Hall stage, some groups, some individuals, and some duologues - all excellent! We celebrated our Drama and LAMDA pupils alike as they performed pieces from poetry to musical theatre, tragedy to comedy and everything in between.

Friday brought our annual Art and Design Show, showcasing the incredible talent of our pupils from Year 9 through to A Level. Parents, staff and pupils enjoyed the chance to see the breadth of phenomenal creations from the year, with pieces on display from Fine Art, Photography, Textiles and 3D Design.

The hordes then descended down the hill for this year's Longmead Festival. The glorious weather brought our largest ever crowd to enjoy almost 3 hours of eclectic music provided by our entire family of schools: Monkton Senior, Monkton Prep and All Hallows. The event kicked off with a 15 minute medley from Les Miserables, featuring Monkton Parents, Staff and Prep Choirs and Senior soloists. All Hallows and Monkton Prep also combined for a heart-warming rendition of You've Got a Friend in Me. Our combined Prep and Senior School Orchestra played a selection of popular classics, including a spell-binding arrangement of O Mio Babbino Caro featuring Yr 12 soloist Libby Y. We also saw performances from Jazz@Monkton, the Gospel Choir, Monkton Wall of Sound, The Jazz-Os, and of course, the Staff Band ft the Monkton Massive!

Saturday morning brought a slightly more reflective but still uniquely-Monkton tone, as the school community came together for our Thanksgiving service, Prizegiving, and House Speeches. As always, it was a wonderful opportunity to look back over the past year and all that has been accomplished, and to send our Year 13 leavers out into the world. It was certainly emotional! - but a brilliant way to end the year.
