Our History
Monkton Combe School was founded in 1868. Set in an ancient village in a glorious Somerset valley its purpose then was to educate the sons of Christian missionaries. Over the years it has evolved into a thriving community, offering an education that develops academic excellence supported by exceptional pastoral care while maintaining its lively Christian ethos. A School with a similar ethos to Monkton began in 1898. Clarendon School always had close links with Monkton and the two schools merged in 1992. Take a look at the timeline of important events that have shaped both schools.
A Delightful Inheritance
In 2017 A Delightful Inheritance was written covering the history of Monkton Combe School to date. Written by OM and former Junior School Headmaster, Peter LeRoy. The book has just been reprinted and can be purchased through the School’s External Relations Office.
“This comprehensive and readable history conveys how a small school of modest origins in a remote valley, but of consistent strong Christian values, can over 150 years spread its influence across the globe”.
