Monkton wins Best Sense of Humour Award
Monkton were delighted to be chosen as the winner of the School with the Best Sense of Humour in the Muddy Stilettos Best School Awards 2022, beating off strong competition from other schools across the country.
Monkton is a school that likes to think differently in everything we do, from how we deliver the curriculum and pioneering pastoral tracking, through to their co‐curricular activities, life in the boarding houses, Principal's assemblies and events such as Prize Giving and House Music. At the heart of this approach is a sense of humour which permeates through our staff and students.
From failure awards in Principal's assembly, which often involve funny stories of how members of the Monkton Community have got things wrong and learned how to improve them in future, and whole school dance challenges, to a singing Principal’s Prize Giving speech going viral and our Chaplain ‘flying’ down the local hills on his office chair, the pupils have become accustomed to never quite knowing what will happen next.
Principal Chris Wheeler said:
“We are delighted to have received this award. Whilst is difficult to measure the impact that these kinds of activities have, what we do know is that Monkton has a very happy student body who welcome the opportunity to be able to do and try things simply for the fun of it, without judgement or pressure to perform.”
