Monkton Prep Success at Mid Somerset Festival 2023
Many of our pupils have been busy this term performing at the Mid-Somerset Festival both as ensembles and as soloists in music, drama and creative writing classes. Competing against many other schools, Monkton once again have secured some excellent results.
Pupils from our Year 3 class entered the category of: ‘Group Themed Performance, Year 6 and Under’ with a remarkable rendition of their devised piece of theatre based on ‘You Wouldn't Want to Sail the Mary Rose’ by Fiona M.
The children took on board and confidently displayed their recently learnt drama skills including physical theatre, ensemble work, expression, characterisation and projection to embody the different parts of the Mary Rose, re-enacting the tragic moment that the ship sank. Each child had the opportunity to work collaboratively and creatively throughout the rehearsal process. They were delighted to be awarded a ‘Distinction’ along with a trophy for the performance, with fantastic feedback from the adjudicators.
Years 5 and 6 also enjoyed competing at the Primary Music Day, where the standard of choirs was extremely high. We are delighted to share that Monkton Voices secured first place with a Distinction and were highly praised for their well blended sound and excellent diction. The cast of our current production of ‘Matilda’ performed with such energy and enthusiasm and were also awarded a Distinction!
Congratulations to all competitors for your confident, expressive and winner-worthy performances.
