Burns Night 2024

Friday 26th January saw the return of our annual Burns Night Supper and Ceilidh. Staff, parents, and Sixth Form pupils came together for a fantastic evening of good food, great dancing, and lots of fun and laughter!

A big thank you and congratulations to Monkton’s ceilidh band, the Scottish Boarders, who performed so magnificently for the Ceilidh. Scottish reels and jigs are both physically demanding, and musically challenging, but posed no problems at all for our talented musicians! The band played a range of wonderful tunes from The Dashing White Sergeant to The Bridge of Athlone, and threw in a few fiddle tunes from around the world including some from the USA, Canada and Ireland. The dances were superbly called and led, as ever, by expert and parent Dave Hall, and it was wonderful to end the evening this year with a solo vocal version of Auld Lang Syne from Monkton Music Scholar, Anna.
