Prep Rugby 7s
Our Prep School Boys' and Girls' Rugby 7s teams have had great success over the last few months, including at the Sibford 7s tournament on Wednesday 20th March. Well done to all for the fantastic teamwork and determination shown consistently, and subsequent brilliant results! Here's an update on how they've been getting on:
Girls' Rugby 7s
Once again, Monkton Prep's Girls continue to blaze a trail on the rugby field, with two teams competing at the Sibford 7s on at the end of March. The U13s (pictured below) played in an U14/U13 combined event and courageously and skilfully made the Cup Semi-final, with some wonderful team play and individual bravery. The U12s (pictured above), made up of girls in Y7 and Y6, managed to go unbeaten at their tournament, winning the Cup Final 21-14 to be crowned champions - the fourth time in five years that Monkton have won a trophy at Sibford.
Boys' Rugby 7s
Our Prep Boys also achieved success at Sibford. The U12s were unbeaten in their group and then narrowly missed out in the Cup Quarter-final, 14-12, having shown great spirit and togetherness. The future is bright for this team.
The U13s, having battled the elements at the prestigious Port Regis tournament, then being unbeaten at the Downside festival, emerged with silverware at Sibford, courtesy of a wonderful run to the Cup Final, beating Warwick along the way. In the final, the opposition were just too powerful, but our boys can hold their heads high - and it wasn't the end to their season, as they headed to Franklin's Gardens, home of Northampton Saints, in April.
On Wednesday 24th April, the U13 Boys left early and travelled to the East Midlands to take part in the Northampton Saints Rugby 7s Finals Day, having qualified just before the Easter break. They played five games, against large schools including Watford Grammar School, Finborough, New Hall and Sharnbrook. Led by captain Charlie, our standard of play with ball in hand was superb, with magnificent support, decision making and handling by all. They didn't quite reach the playoff games, but enjoyed the opportunity to watch the main final in the stadium at the end. A great end to a long season of rugby from a committed and coachable group of boys. Well done!
