Westonbirt Cross Country
On Wednesday 7th February, 59 MPS pupils travelled to the beautiful setting of Westonbirt for their annual Cross-Country event. There were 14 schools involved in the event and it was fantastic to have so many Monkton Runners involved, from Year 2 through to Year 6.
Runners covered either 1500m or 2200m in distance over a flat but wet and muddy course. There were some spectacular performances to note, including many top 10 finishes across all age-categories.
Monkton achieved a double podium for Y4 boys, which was lovely to see! Well done to Callum (1st) and William (3rd) who had a very exciting & competitive race. In the Year 3 girls, Charlotte took the bronze and also had a super race finish. In Y5, Jaden (1st) took it in his stride as he overtook the lead hare and managed to get a 70m lead to take a convincing win for the Y5 boys category, he finished just 3 seconds shy of the course record - a fantastic effort!
Monkton also represented well in the team results, with every Monkton team placed in the top 3 overall:
U8 Boys - 3rd
U8 Girls - 3rd
U9 Boys - 1st
U9 Girls - 1st
U10 Boys - 3rd
U10 Girls - 3rd
U11 Boys - 3rd
We are so proud of all of our runners for taking part and for showing courage & determination, keep up the great running!
