BaNES Cross Country 2023
Tuesday 17th October saw the return of the annual BaNES Cross-country event at Kingswood Upper Playing Fields. A host of schools from across the Bath and North East Somerset area took part in the event, with up to 100 runners in some age categories. 60 Monkton runners represented across Year 7 to Year 13 and it was fantastic to see their support for each other across the course.
Monkton produced some fantastic performances, some were first time BaNES runners and others podium finishers. Josh kicked off proceedings for the Senior Boys, running the furthest distance of the day at just over 6 km, he placed a respectable 17th in a competitive field.
The first exciting medal of the afternoon was won by Katherine, who put in a fantastic effort to achieve a silver medal in the Minor Girls category, in her debut race at BaNES. Also in the Minor Girls category, Immy finished strong to place 6th, showing great potential!
Another stunning performance was by Zac who impressed by winning the Minor Boys age category with a 300m lead, also in his debut performance at BaNES. A tight pack of Year 7 boys also finished well within the top 20: Percy (12th), Josiah (14th) and Felix (15th).
In the Inter Girls race, Amelie raced to a bronze medal in an exciting sprint finish, an impressive race where teammate Isla finished just behind in a super 4th place position. Other impressive top 20 finishes came from Year 10 runners Grace (15th) and Poppy (19th).
The Junior Girls showcased fine form and determination; Sophie led the charge in 9th, whilst Ashleigh (21st) and Sorrel (22nd) were also close to the top 20.
The Junior Boys also had a host of great runs and were in contention with each other; the first Monkton finisher was Reggie (9th), followed swiftly by Nathaniel (10th) and Jayden (11th), which made for an exciting finish! Charlie also showed great determination to finish within the top 20, in 17th.
Representing the Senior Girls, Hannah paced her race well and surprised herself by taking the silver medal in her first ever BaNES cross-country. Eliza also had a great run in which she placed 4th, followed by team-mate Liv in 5th.
The final race of the day was the Inter-boys and it was Jacob who led the Monkton team home, finishing well within the top 10 in an impressive eighth position.
Well done to all our Monkton Runners!
