Partnerships - Winsley School Outdoor Spaces
As part of our ongoing partnership with Winsley Primary School, over the last few months, Monkton pupils have visited Winsley as part of their Environment Education to help build and develop the school's outdoor learning spaces.
Back in October, a group of eight Year 12 students went up to Winsley to make six benches out of sleepers for an outdoor learning space, designed and constructed by Monkton. The event was supported by our Grounds Team, and the wood was provided by Winsley PTA.
Then in February, another group of Year 12 Environmental Education pupils, some the same as previously, spent an afternoon at Winsley to build four raised beds. Despite the rain and hail, our pupils embraced the service element of their education and swiftly built the beds and filled them with compost. Our pupils were met by a Year 5 pupil from Winsley and the Head, Mr Wolverson who both explained the impact the beds will have and how grateful the school is.
We are proud of this partnership that is beneficial both to our Monkton pupils, who develop their service, a sense of satisfaction, project management, practical skills, team-work and communication, and to Winsley pupils, who will benefit from being able to learn outside and the wealth of opportunities this brings. We hope that this will be an ongoing partnership between the two schools.
