Knight Lecture 2023
This year’s Knight Lecture was an undeniable success, bringing together three remarkable women from different backgrounds to share their stories and insights with a captivated audience. This year's event was designed to be different from the norm, allowing the speakers to engage in a lively conversation with one another and with those in attendance as they shared their journeys to becoming the successful and authentic leaders they are today.
Freshta Karim, Founder of Charmaghz shared her inspiring story about her journey to become the founder of Charmaghz, an organisation which provides mobile library services within Kabul, Afghanistan helping Afghan children to develop their creativity and critical thinking skills. Karim spoke about her ambitions growing up in Afghanistan, and how her experiences led her to create an organisation that helps young women and girls in similar situations.
Sally Ann Huang, the High Master of St Paul's School and former Chair of HMC spoke about her experiences as a female leader in the education sector and shared her thoughts on how to empower young people to become leaders in their own right. She emphasised the importance of authenticity, empathy, and resilience in leadership and provided valuable insights into how to develop these qualities.
Georgia Dawson, a Senior Partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, shared her experience as a female leader in the legal sector. Dawson spoke about her journey to becoming a young lawyer and a successful partner at one of the world's leading law firms. She also shared her thoughts on how to create a more inclusive workplace and how to empower young people to succeed in the legal profession.
The stories shared by the three speakers were a testament to the power of authentic leadership, empathy, and resilience, and serve as an inspiration to anyone looking to succeed in their chosen field. By the end of the event, it was clear that the audience had been deeply moved by the stories and insights of these remarkable women.
It was lovely to welcome guests from across the Monkton Community, including partner schools, donors, OMs, parents and current pupils and we would like to thank everyone who came to be a part of this event.
