South-West Independent Schools U18 Lambs host Rugby development days for Monkton Seniors
On Sunday 12th December, Monkton welcomed the South-West Independent School Lambs U18 Rugby group for the first of two development days to be held on the school's facilities.
Set-up to provide a more relevant representative opportunity for Year 13 school boy rugby players around the country, this first training day provided an opportunity for nearly 70 of the best rugby players in the South-West (including a number from Monkton) to come together on this first step towards National honours.
The Lambs was originally set up to promote traditional rugby values and a 'Corinthian' spirit and the players are encouraged to play 'Fast and Free'. This makes for some exhilarating rugby which players gain great enjoyment from contributing to.
Much of the training is player-led, adding to the experience as many of the boys seek to make the most of their last opportunity to enjoy the wonders of school boy rugby.
Manager and Head-coach of the South-West group, Tom Clayton-Shepherd, thanked Monkton for the use of their facilities: "We have been hugely grateful to be able to access the wonderful facilities that Monkton have provided today. The high quality of their playing fields and facilities, as well as their stunning and central location mean this was an ideal venue for us to host the first of our development days. We are delighted that Monkton's generosity has extended into the New Year when we very much look forward to returning. The immaculate playing surface ensures that we will be able to prepare the boys as well as possible for their future matches."
