Giving At Monkton
A new Giving Committee has been launched today to head up our renewed vision for giving at Monkton. A team that combines pupils from both Prep and Senior Schools, alongside staff members, will work together to strengthen the culture of service at Monkton, making it a place where pupils are increasingly well informed and excited about giving.
Reflecting the key themes of living, leading and learning, the team will explore ways to support a growing network of partners outside of Monkton, as well as inspire engagement and generosity within the school community. We want our pupils to move beyond ideas of charity, to a more holistic understanding of what it means to play a part in the community and to give of your time and energy as well as just fundraising.
Over the past year Monkton has formalised the partnership relationship we have with the Genesis Trust in Bath. We have benefited greatly from a range of talks and events, raising awareness amongst our pupils about why it matters to give effectively as well as generously. As we have learnt about the challenges faced by some of the most vulnerable people in the Bath area, we have responded through ad hoc initiatives such as the year 10 Justice Project and sponsored garden sleepout which took place over the lockdown period and brought families together to support Genesis Trust’s work with the homeless. It is exciting that we now have a team assembled who can develop this partnership into something more strategic and sustainable in the coming months and years.
Beyond the local there are many other areas where our pupils are passionate about making a difference. The Giving Committee will pursue opportunities and drive creativity when it comes to engaging with these areas of need, whether through fundraising, letter writing, acts of service or research and communication to raise awareness. Our aim is that every pupil in Monkton has the opportunity to experience regularly what it means to give, and to carry the value of generosity with them into adult life.
