Weekend rowing success at London Head
Monkton were in fine rowing form over the weekend as they took two crews to the pairs head in London. The 4500m course from Chiswick Bridge to Harrods Depository building always dishes up an exciting mix of competitive racing and difficult conditions for the small boats to deal with.
Our J18 pair of Sam Ford and Henry Bennett put in a solid performance to finish 4th in their category. Sam did a great job of steering and Henry kept up a good tempo from the stroke seat and showed they have the speed to take into the next few races and get a win on the board.
The girls J182X was a composite of Monkton and Avon county rowing club. Monkton's sculler was Victoria Brown and it was the girls' mission to get in the top 5. Victoria has improved her technique and posture so much over the summer and looks a very accomplished sculler in the single. The challenge was to scull in a new partnership with Finnola from Avon and she definitely rose to the occasion. They raced well and kept to the race plan of attacking the course and trusting the fitness they have to push as hard as they can. The provisional results showed they were in second place and we were over the moon with this but when the official results came out the shock of the day was that we had won !!!!
