Eddystone House - a symbol of Brotherhood by Ethan Machell Year 10
I think that one of the marks of Eddy is Brotherhood. Take the inter house touch rugby tournament in late 2019. We started the tournament in high spirits with an inspiring speech from a year nine. Then, after a disappointing third place finish, the same year nine brought us back together reminding us of the importance of teamwork and cooperation.
Eddystone has recently been showing a great proficiency in rowing. After a frustrating loss at the last house ergometer competition (due to a broken chain), we were able to each pull our weight and finish in a convincing first place this year. My favourite inter house competition is the house regatta which was unfortunately cancelled this year because of Covid-19.
Personally, one of my favourite things about Eddy is the view. Being the only boys house that is up the hill, the view on the walk down to breakfast is sublime. In the late summer months, you can see the sun rising over the Midford valley as you walk down with a delicious bowl of coco pops on your mind. Walking up to the house during break can be a little tiring, though, but it doesn’t take long.
Eddy consists of two main buildings, one right next to the other. Main Eddy is where years 9, 10, 12 and some 13s have rooms. The other building - Della - is home to all the year 11’s and the rest of the year 13’s. The Robinsons’ house is attached to main Eddy, while the Pringles (resident tutors) live in the flat attached to Della. On a Tuesday, after prep, if you are still in school you are invited to in-house, which is a weekly social for people in their houses. In-house is a great chance to meet more people within the house and have fun while enjoying some lovely food prepared by Mrs Robinson.
If I could use five words to describe Eddy they would be:
Camaraderie, Unity, Acceptance, Diversity and Loyalty
These are the words I feel truly represent what I experience when I am staying in Eddy.
