Assistant Houseparents

Pastorally accommodated role

Monkton is seeking to appoint for September 2025 committed and dedicated Assistant Houseparents for a boys boarding and day house for Years 9-13. 

Assistant Houseparents are a key part of the pastoral team and the role is most suited to those intending to progress to houseparenting in the future. We place strong emphasis on training and development for post holders and seek couples who are both committed to supporting the house. 

Given the school’s strong Christian ethos, a strong, and ideally personal, understanding of the Christian faith is important in this role.

This is a pastorally accommodated role supporting the Houseparents and may be of interest to those applying for teaching roles at Monkton. The role is usually for 2 years with potential for extension beyond that time.

Carpenter/Multi Trade

Carpenter/Multi-trades person

Full time, permanent

Salary up from £25,300 up to £26,200 per annum

We are looking for an experienced Carpenter/Multi Trade to join our team based at Monkton Combe School. You will carry out repairs and daily general preventative maintenance of the premises. You will be required to maintain the appearance of the School to the highest possible standards and ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to at all times. You will be able to work well within a team with a demonstrable commitment to health and safety and service.

Hours of work will be 8am until 4.45pm, Monday to Friday, including a 30 minute unpaid break for lunch and a 15 minute break in the morning/afternoon. The role is paid for 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. Any agreed extra hours will be compensated for either with time in lieu or at agreed overtime rates. There is an option of being included on the call-out rota where you will receive additional pay.  

 

Key responsibilities 

  • General carpentry, hanging doors, building and repairing stud partitions, decorating etc.
  • Constructing new timber-built items, roof repairs and windows repairs.  Assembly and fitting of ironmongery and metalwork fittings.
  • Operating woodworking machinery, setting out and assembly of joinery items.
  • General building work, glazing, simple plumbing, concrete and plaster work etc.
  • Roof repairs, tiling, fitting and maintaining gutters etc.
  • Foundations and drain laying, damp-proofing and below ground works.
  • Erection and use of aluminium scaffold towers etc.
  • Decorating, wall tiling and general finishing to new works.

  • Ensure that all your food is prepared, cooked and presented to the highest possible standards.
  • Assist the Head Chef with menu planning, especially for Boarders’ and Chefs’ Choice Supper menus.
  • Ensure that all menus are varied and offer a balanced diet and comply with the School’s Food and Healthy Eating Policy.
  • Ensure all food is prepared with due care and attention, particularly in regard to customers’ special dietary requirements and any allergies that may affect our customers / consumers
  •  Pay particular attention to counter presentation throughout meal services and provide a supervisory presence.
  • Ensure all service staff are fully briefed before service commences and to have tasted the dishes on offer.
  • Assist the Head Chef ensure that the weekly and monthly budgeted food cost targets are met and action is taken as appropriate in the case of any deviation to budget.

Monkton is seeking to appoint a dedicated and professional nurse to join our small, hardworking and friendly medical centre team working across the whole school.

The aim of the role is to support pupils’ health and wellbeing so that they can fully participate in school life and provide health care to members of the school community. In both areas, the medical centre team strives to develop and maintain positive and mutually supportive relationships with the wider school community, particularly those at the core of our exceptional pastoral care.

Our nurses work on a shift basis across both sites and therefore a flexible approach to this is essential. Due to the nature of the role, and in keeping with the nature of an Independent Boarding School, hours of work include evenings and weekends.

Swimming Coach

Start date: ASAP 

One year fixed-term contract, Term-time only, Part-time

Hours of work: Tuesday 7am-8am, Wednesday 10.15am-11.00am, 1.45pm-3.15pm, and Saturday 7.00am-8.30am.

Salary: £20 per hour 

We are seeking to appoint a dedicated swim coach to join a hard working and friendly Sports Department as they continue driving sport forward with a whole school approach. The successful candidate will be an exceptional coach required to assist with Swimming sessions for a range of age groups from Reception through to our Senior School students in our Monkton Leisure Centre based at the Monkton Prep School. The aim of this role is to assist with swimming coaching across our School swim squad and Reception to Year 2 classes.

This position would report to and work alongside our Head of Individual Sport, Head of Swimming Development as well as the Head of PE, to deliver Swimming coaching to a range of year groups.

Swim Squad is our extra-curricular Swimming provision for students from Year 3 to Year 13 and the working hours for this will be Tuesday morning 7.00am-8.00am and Saturday morning 7.00am-8.00am (with S&C from 8.00am to 8.30am) with the potential to occasionally support with some Monday evening sessions. For this role we will also be looking for someone to support and coach our Reception - Year 2 Swimming lessons on a Wednesday which take place from 10.15am-11.00am and 1.45pm-3.15pm.These sessions will involve teaching a group of students of mixed ability to work on and improve their Swimming skills.

We are seeking a qualified Swim Teacher to teach a range of aquatic skills for both individual and group lessons using the ASA National Plan for Teaching Swimming. You would work with the Head of Swimming Development to develop and improve both the Swim School programme and the private lesson programme.

You might also be asked to support as an Assistant Swim Teacher as and when the need arises.

Specific duties:

  • To work with groups and individual swimmers to help them achieve the aims required by the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS)
  • Undertaking administrative duties such as grading or taking payments for private lessons to support the delivery of an effective programme
  • Developing positive relationships with class participants, other teachers and guardians
  • Ensuring a safe and secure environment for visitors and employees
  • Complete Swim School reports on each child’s progress and liaising with parents as and when required

Graduate Teaching Assistants are seen as an important part of the Pastoral and Academic teams at Monkton.  This is an exciting opportunity to explore and gain experience of working with young people, ages 13-18 years, in a supportive environment and allow you to decide if teaching or pastoral care is the right career path for you. You will have the opportunity to get involved with various activities during the school day, such as supporting in a classroom environment and covering lessons, supporting and supervising sport lessons and other extracurricular activities, to be resident on site, and to help care for the boarders after the academic day has finished and at the weekends.

Holiday Camp Assistant

Monkton Holiday Camp Assistant

Casual contract, £11.44 to £12.21 per hour

To start July 2025

Monkton Leisure is seeking to appoint a qualified and experienced Children’s Holiday Camp Assistant on a casual basis during the school holidays, whose primary responsibility is to assist with the day to day running of the popular Monkton Minis and Muckers holiday play schemes. This scheme is for 4-8 and 8-14 year old children based at Monkton Combe School (most commonly the Prep and Pre-Prep sites). Monkton Holiday Camps run from 8:15am to 5:30pm.
