Preparing pupils for the next stage in their lives
Monkton Sixth Form Evening
An excerpt from the Sixth Form Evening in October 2016.
Life in the sixth form at Monkton is a very special time for students for many reasons. They are studying the subjects they particularly value and enjoy; they are gaining invaluable experience and learning wider skills through our diverse enrichment programme; they are building up new friendships with pupils who join us from all over the world. But perhaps most importantly, they are taking advantage of the fantastic support they receive from their teachers, tutors and Houseparents as they prepare to leave Monkton and start a new life elsewhere.
We offer a range of 27 subjects at A level, Pre-U and BTEC. For more information on these choices and the wider enrichment programme, please see the Monkton Sixth Form booklet at the bottom of this page, and the Academic pages of the website. Entry to year 12 is normally dependent on achieving a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A*- C together with an average of at least 6.0 in all GCSE subjects taken (A*=8, A=7 etc). Progression to year 13 will depend on achieving at least D grades in the subjects with which they intend to continue.
Every student's progress is carefully monitored by their tutors and this is an important relationship. During the sixth form they meet on a weekly basis, one to one, to review progress, wider enrichment, and UCAS application forms, as well as to talk through any problems and pressures that may occur.
