At the Senior School, we have superb sports facilities from our own boathouse on the River Avon to our beautiful rugby and cricket ground, Longmead. Sport is important at our school and we encourage all our students to participate to the best of their ability whatever that may be. Please refer to our Sports section of the website for further information.
All pupils should be competent performers at school team level and be interested in watching, reading about and discussing sport. The theory and practical sections are very much interlinked. In the theory modules, students study anatomy and physiology, training methods, psychological factors affecting performance, health and safety issues, factors affecting participation, the organisation of sport in the UK and contemporary sporting issues. The practical sessions focus on development of skills, analysis of performance and developing sport related fitness.
The course focuses on 'participation and performance in physical activity as part of a balanced, active and healthy lifestyle'. The specifications are designed to allow candidates to develop an understanding and appreciation of the factors that enable both them and others to be physically active as part of a balanced, active and healthy lifestyle. The factors studied will include physiological, psychological and socio-cultural aspects that have an impact on participation and performance in physical activities.
