Geography

Understanding the complex relationships between physical and human environments

Year 9

In Year 9, the curriculum is designed to build on the student's study of Geography before arriving at Monkton Senior School. We also aim to prepare them for the rigours of life at GCSE and beyond.The Year 9 students study a range of units including: Antarctica and Fragile Environments, Glaciation, Conflict, and Weather and Climate.

In year 10 and 11 the students study the AQA Level 1/2 Certificate (iGCSE)

AQA Syllabus

Three written papers:

a) Physical Geography (1 hour)
b) Human Geography (1 hour)
c) Skills and Decision-Making Exercise (90 mins)

Topics covered: Restless Earth, The Coastal Zone, Population, Tourism, Cartographic, Statistical and Graphical Techniques.

A level:AQA Syllabus.

  • Two written papers – one fieldwork and one core topics.
  • The Physical Environment (coastlines, rivers, arid and semi-arid landscapes, glacial and peri-glacial environments.)
  • The Human Environment (population change, food supply, energy)
  • Two written papers – one fieldwork and one core topics.
  • Global Issues: earth hazards, ecosystems under threat, climatic hazards, conflict and poverty.
