Common Entrance
Entry to independent secondary schools
The Common Entrance examination is the standard exam, taken by pupils aged 13, which enables children to enter independent secondary schools from Prep schools. Monkton Prep is the only school in the Bath area that prepares children for this examination which is held for Year 8 pupils in the month of June. The exam is marked by the independent school of choice and is taken in English, Maths, Science, French, Geography, History, Religious Studies and Classics.
Those pupils wishing to apply for scholarships will be prepared appropriately to enable them to cope with the demands of the scholarship exams. For more information about Scholarships, please go to Prep School Scholarships in the Admissions section.
Ultimately, the choice of public school and the method of entry is decided by the parents and pupils. The Director of Studies and the Headmaster are very happy to advise parents on the choices available.
