Monkton Rowers end their season with silverware
Monday, 19 June 2017
Monkton rowers had an extremely busy weekend at three different events across the country. Stratford, Marlow and Henley were the settings for the regattas and Monkton came away with three wins in total with some very commendable showings in other races. The main team of rowers were from Years 9, 10, 11 and 12 racing on the River Avon in Stratford. The two impressive performances came in the Year 10 boys and girls fours winning their category. These were tough races and both boats showed the work, which they have been doing over the year in their final race of the season. Other notable performances were in the yr 9 girls boat who narrowly missed out in the final.
At Marlow the Year 11 - 13 boys raced in two eights at Marlow Regatta on the 2012 Olympic course. The first eight finished third and the second eight were awarded fastest second eight.
The girls were at Henley on the famous stretch of water between the booms with two boats of eight. It's a long time since Monkton fielded a boat in this category and they battled vailiantly against a very strong Lady Eleanor Hollis crew.
All in all a great weekend of rowing capping a very successful season.
