Eddie flies high at Monkton
Monday, 26 February 2018
We were delighted to welcome Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards to Monkton on Friday to talk to a packed Chapel. Although billed as a Sixth Form lecture everyone - parents, friends, pupils from both the Senior School and Prep School - agreed that Eddie's presentation was inspirational. He spoke clearly, thoughtfully, and with a good deal of humour as he regaled us with tales of his training in the run up to his infamous appearance in the Ski Jump at the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988. To meet the man himself, who has recently been the subject of a film, was a real honour for everyone.
As Eddie said “I’m hoping that through the stories I have told, the pupils will go away thinking that as long as they have lots of resilience and tenacity they can achieve anything. Never ever give up, no matter how many people tell you that it can’t be done, if you think it can be done and you think you can do it, you go for it.”
Thank you Eddie for taking the time to be with us at Monkton. He even signed a ski helmet and goggles which we will auction at the school in the coming months
